Approaching Business Opportunity Leads

Business Opportunity Leads - Please adjust your headset or speaker volume

Most people start in the business by contacting their friends and family. However, there are some people who, for one reason or another, find it a challenge to do so. Why.. well maybe they have only recently come to the country, maybe they have already approached them about other ventures, which have failed to work, or maybe they just don't like the idea of talking to their friends or family about business. So what other options are there. Well the answer is simple. Just like in other conventional businesses, which spend money on marketing to acquire prospects for their goods or services, Network Marketers can also invest into acquiring Business Opportunity Leads. You can either invest your time and money into buying flyers and/or sizzle cards, and then personally distributing them. Alternatively you can invest in Business Opportunity Leads, which are usually purchased from providers on the internet.

How much should you invest... well that depends on what budget you feel comfortable with. Whilst, in North America, leads can be acquired from as little as a few cents each,

UK leads are not cheap and you can expect to pay something between £1.50 and £2.50 per lead, depending on source, quantity and quality. It also depends on what time you can commit to, to contacting and following up these leads. It's no good buying them and then not following up promptly.

So, summing up, whilst Leads fall into various categories, for the time being, we will take a look at those under the heading of ‘Business Opportunity Seekers’, who have responded to some form of marketing, e.g.:

  • From an advert on the internet… which you probably purchased

  • From a Flyer or small advertisement which you placed

  • From a sizzle card which you handed out

If they have responded to one of these forms of adverts, they may already have been directed to a ‘sizzle line’ (information line), or web site. Other times they are a lead which you purchased and will call, to invite them to look at your particular program.… obviously you will know which is applicable.

The following is based upon my own experience successfully calling leads purchased on the internet. Having spent 25 years in direct sales, with a high volume of cold calling involved, this is one area where I can truly say I have bags of experience 'getting it wrong'... so take my advice and don't try to reinvent the wheel.

The very first piece of advice is, don't try to befriend the prospect on your first call... you'll be wasting loads of your time, because most of your prospects will NOT buy into your opportunity! Wait until you have a positive response, before you spend time creating a relationship. So, just like your approach to a friend, you must keep your initial approach brief, or you will never hit the numbers.

So let’s take a look at some variations of approach to a Business Opportunity Seeker:

For the purpose of the script, I am going to assume I am making the call to a Prospect called John.

 

Call 1, Initial Approach.

 

Hi, Is John there?

Hi John,  this is Paul FitzGerald, calling from my home in Eastbourne, (England if calling internationally)
John, the reason I am calling, is because you recently enquired on-line about making an additional part-time income and I am responding to your request for more info about working from home. Is it a good time to speak right now? (if not, reappoint)

Hey John, I want you to know, my purpose isn’t to persuade you that what I have got is what you should be doing. Rather to gauge the possibility that what I have, matches what you want, and whether we can work together. Does that make sense John?

Also, this is a business we are looking at and I’m not offering you a Job? Are you Ok with that?

Grab A Pen John. What I want to do on this call is TWO things. First, I want you to listen to a short, 3 minute, pre-recorded information line on .......................... My number is .......................... Can you confirm both numbers back to me? After you've listened to that, if you find it of interest, we can move on to step 2, which is a short interview. Will you please call that number now, then call me back in FIVE minutes, to let me know whether you find it interesting enough to explore further… If you don’t call me, I’ll assume you’re not interested and I’ll scratch your name off the list. (always 3-way call them into the number if possible)

Alternatives:

Call 2 – Follow up and Interview

So John, on a scale of One to Ten, how do you measure your interest? (Only if positive continue..)
What did you find interesting about that?. . . . listen to answer and then question as necessary…
Who do you know with drive and ambition?
So it seems you'd like to explore this further… So, what I’d like to do now John is….

  1. Find a little about you and what you are looking for...

  2. Tell you a little about us and what we are looking for...

  3. If we have a match, go from there and I’ll direct you to some information on the internet. How are we doing so far?

Also John, you will appreciate that IF, AFTER reviewing the information, you find the business meets your requirements, I just don’t have time to spend with anyone who is not really ready to get started immediately! …. How does that fit with you?

Look John, I’d like to ask you FOUR short questions to kick off:

  1. How much money would you consider to be a serious additional monthly income?

  2. If you had that, what difference would that make to your life?

  3. If you felt convinced that you could make an additional £/$……... on a monthly basis, having checked things out and satisfied yourself, would you be prepared to give me 7-10 hours a week, for at least a year, to achieve it?

  4. If, once again, you felt for sure you could make £/$…….. monthly, would you be prepared to invest £/$200-400 in yourself, to achieve it?

Thanks for being so frank with me John, now for a little about us. I will be sending you to a website where you can see an audio/visual presentation which will provide a brief overview of our Company, our products and how you make money. We have a very active, experienced team, which generates a high success level for our Partners and the high probability, that if you follow our proven system, you can more than meet your financial goals.

 

Look John, I am seeking decisive people. People who are willing to learn and can commit to working a proven system, a few minutes a day, possible 7-10 hours or more a week; People who are team players and who want to create a significant positive change in their financial futures. GREAT! Just checking! Now, do you have audio capability on your computer? Can I confirm your email address? Within a few minutes I will send you an email, which will direct you to a website with additional information. The whole purpose of these sites and calls, which are used by all of our team, is for you to see what I am doing and whether you wish to join with us. So John, when within the next 24 hours can you review the information?

OK John, can we speak again at …. on……? The purpose of our second call is to clear up any questions you might have, see what additional information you might need before you can make a decision, and to see whether our business is a way of making money you would like to be involved with? If your answer is ‘Yes’ that’s great, however, a ‘No’ is fine too.. BUT, ‘thinking about it’ or ‘maybe’s’ just kill me and I’ll just take it you mean no!

 

If your answer is No, I shall only ask you one further question, which is Why? This is because I have found on occasion, someone has got the wrong end of the stick and misunderstood something. However, if this is not for you, rest assured, I have no intention of attempting to persuade you it is. Please don’t delay in getting back to me ASAP if you want further information, or wish to get started, because I am looking for decisive people, who want to create serious income and with whom to share our time and experience to start RIGHT AWAY… like NOW! Does that sound like you?

If John is a Hot Prospect, you might want to do some relationship building and ask a few questions. These are questions I have found useful. Use them as a prompt, but don't make it sound like an inquisition:

  • So tell me John, are you currently working? What type of work do you do?

  • How long have you done that... do you like it?

  • Is that a kinda Tough job? So What’s the toughest part of your work?

  • Do you believe that doing what you are doing, is going to get what you want?

  • Can you tell me briefly, why you might like to have your own home based business?

  • What is it you want, you haven’t got?

  • Are you a family person? How do you spend your recreation time?

  • Are you looking to supplement your income or replace it? (get them to open up)

  • How much time a week do you have available to put into a home based business?

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS ABOUT HAVING A HOME BASED BUSINESS?

  • Tell me John, apart from your family, is there anything in your life you that you strove for that you are really proud you achieved… it can be anything… maybe education, sport, business, or a hobby… something you worked hard to achieve?
